Palm Springs Photo Festival – Salton Sea and Slab City

Last month I attended a three day workshop with Ed Kashi at the 2010 Palm Springs Photo Festival. This workshop was an opportunity for me to refine my fine art photography and photojournalism skills.

During the first day of the workshop we visited Mission Beach at Salton Sea and Slab City.

Our first part of our challenge was to create connections with the residents and the surroundings. The other challenge was to document these connections by creating portrait, still life, or landscape images. We did not have any special lighting except for sunlight and the shadows.

“Man and His Dog”

“Home No More”

“Cindy and Friend”

“Carol, Gary and ChaCha, Prom King and Queen of Slab City 2010″

“Carol and Gary”

The first day of the workshop with Ed Kashi helped reaffirm my natural talent for connecting with people, and shooting portraits.

This is what makes wedding photography one of my greatest passions.
